Mission Statement

The "Nur" Association is a nonprofit organization for social change whose goal is to provide Bedouin persons who are blind with tools to enable them to integrate into society as equal members.

Every citizen in the State of Israel has a basic right to receive equal opportunity regardless of race, living environment, gender, age, income, education or disability. Nur was established to achieve this fundamental right for blind Bedouins.

One way to accomplish this is by building a warm community center where people facing similar disabilities can meet and share their respective experiences and challenges. Exchanging ideas, learning from the experience of others (mentoring) and social networking will give these individuals the opportunity to grow and improve their self-image; they become productive members of society and thus avoid becoming a burden on society.

Realization of this endeavor will create a body of knowledge that will enable the rehabilitation of the Bedouin people in the Negev who are blind and visually impaired.

The Association works in collaboration with other institutions, such as the Ministries of Education, Welfare and Social Security as well as the Prime Minister's special Commission for Bedouin Economic Development. We also work at the local level, with community centers and community officials.

The Association is looking for people to build a network of volunteers to help attain its goals.
